Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”  Then said I, Here I am. Send Me.

WESTWARD THROUGH NAVRONGO, SANDEMA AND FUMBISI TO "OVERSEAS"

Upper East Region, Ghana

“Overseas,” as the locals of Navrongo, Sandema and Fumbisi call is, is a collection of several towns and villages beyond two great rivers in Ghana: the Black and White Volta. This vast area is one of the most unproductive, under developed, and neglected regions in Ghana. The region is a desert area, having only one rainy season throughout the year making farming incredibly difficult. In some of the villages where there are no wells, the people drink from the same ponds where their camels, goats and sheep drink. There are no hospitals or clinics, some roads are impassable, and in some places with large communities of people, there are virtually no roads at all. It is one of the unreached areas in Ghana, where there are no churches; only the Islamic religion dominates.

Someone has said, “life on the mission field is not a Sunday school picnic. It has demands, sacrifices, a big difference from what we are accustomed to. The greatest challenge is to step outside the box, that of one’s comfort zone for the sake of others. We traveled far to the interior to explore, pray and seek the Lord’s leading for future mission endeavors. We stationed at a village called Kukuwa and teamed up with OM, a mission organization that operates solely among Muslims.

We humbly and willingly shared our lives with them; sometimes we were demanded to sleep in dens, floor mattress, and adopt the lifestyle of the local people. Like Apostle Paul said, “I became all things to all people … for this I do for the gospel’s sake, that l might by all means save some (1Cor. 9: 22-23). We ministered to the people through personal witnessing during the day and preaching during a three day open air crusade by the night. We came in contact with several young people, boys and girls, men and women who are dying for love, affection and attention, while living life hungry, half naked, in isolation and illiteracy, without adequate medical care. There were about fifty Muslims who were converted to the Christian faith. Among these was one young man Musa who could read and write and accepted the call to be trained to teach continue with the work Lord had begun with his people.

Bibles, clothing, shoes, and food items were donated to the community. The dire need in this region was made apparent during this trip. Plans for future follow up missions involving medical care, leadership training and church planting are on our hearts. The need is so great but we continue to await the Lord’s leading and provision.

In the same way, there is more joy in heaven

over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over nainety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!

- Luke 15:7
